The Presentation Of Self
In everyday life...
Self-Portrait of the artist by representation in photographs.
The self-portrait is a highly self conscious act by a creative person and may by some considered an act of conceit. Perhaps that might be but consider the artist may have no other subject, is actually more self-conscious depicting others or simply is trying to express who and how they see themselves. It is an attempt to represent the image they wish to project or see themselves reflected in. In some sense it is an act of courage to turn the self inside out for the world to view. It could be an accurate depiction of themselves or a presentment of whom and what they see themselves as.
In this set of photographs my goal was to record myself as I approach my sixties for several reasons. Primarily though for visual documentation as I see myself now to be able to look back on in future years. I have been chronicling myself this way since my twenties, although not in any specific regularity, finding that when I look at past photographs my perception of self as not been much different as documented. There are three photographs, one is an outline of an image I have of myself and another is a standard photograph while the other an everyday act recorded in a unique way.

On The Other Side Viral
A lost week to some imported microrganism...
Since last Saturday afternoon for 15-18 of 24 hours in a day I have slept due to some kind of virus. I blame the winter visitors who annually always bring some unwanted gift from Back East. The bad news is I lost almost five days. The good news is apparently I didn't have it as bad as some people who didn't get a flu shot, therefore I missed the grizzlier aspects of it.
I'm determined to stay awake for the rest of the day with the help of pseudoephedrine and caffeine. Since I can't share the offending microbe I will share the unedited version of an unshaven bedheaded me. On the lighter side the last time I succumbed to anything was early 2006 and when I recovered I had a burst of creativity. My mind is already cranking, photos and videos that need editing with stuff in my head that demands to be written.

Selfy Sunday | 09-25-11
Purple In Silver City NM...
Google+ has turned out to be quite popular with photographers and other creative artists. Jeff Smith and Levi Moore collaborate on a project called "Selfy Sunday" open to photographers on Google+ for posting and sharing a self-portrait taken that day or the week before. This photograph is my contribution to Selfy Sunday - Sept. 25 | 2011.
This has turned out to be an enriching project and a great way to share with other photographers, amateur and professional, new or experienced your work and see the work of others. It is an exercise in how you portray yourself with your photography.
My contribution and the associated comments can be viewed by clicking on Purple in Silver City NM and clicking on +JR Snyder Jr will take you to my Google+ posts and profile. You may also want to visit my Picasa Web Photo Albums where I will also be migrating my photos currently on Flickr.
