Financial debt kills the soul and spirit...
The American people faithfully need to financially deleverage: as individuals, in the private sector and our government. We also need to rethink our way of life.
The idea of reviving our economy by continuing to be cogs in a wheel at a job to mindlessly consume manufactured goods is dead, because the culture of the last 150 years is bankrupt. The American Soul needs to quit borrowing, because it's endangering the solvency of the American Spirit.

ReplyDeleteI never really understood until recently how much the framers of the Constitution loathed debt. I also never realized until lately why it has always bugged me when, on payday, people love to announce that "it's already spent". Two very distinct situations, and both of them proving your point.
I also think you are right about the work-to-consume mentality needing to be tossed out. It never really made any sense, and it hasn't grown in logic lately...I would LOVE to see a country of people with money (maybe not a lot, but at least some) who could see some stupid fad come along and say, no, we don't want that. I think some truly interesting and useful things would come out of it...not that being able to pay for phone ring tones isn't important, but...you get my point.
Anyway, I am definitely with you on this. Very cool post.
I've never understood the work-to-consume or the pride of "It's already spent" either, it's kind of repulsive to me, a bumper sticker theology "I owe, I owe, so off to work I go."
